Boy/Girl Twins Nursery | Mustaches & Lips

As soon as we found out we were having a boy and a girl I immediately was online searching for what kind of theme I could pull off. I came across a picture on Pinterest of some mugs that were for sale on Etsy that were for a husband and wife. One had a Mustache and the other Lips! That was it, that was my theme. I loved it right then and there and decided to take that and run with it. I knew I wanted to use Red, Turquoise, mustard yellow, orange, and white. Through the mugs and other ideas I saw on Pinterest and my own craziness, I came up with this. Enjoy..........

Ruby's Crib!!! This crib was found at a yard sale for $30!! We spray painted it with a Krylon turquoise blue color. The name escapes me now, but if you are interested in knowing I will find out. It turned out exactly how I had hoped!

My Mom is an amazing seamstress/Quilter and actually owns her own Quilting business. She is taking a leave of absence right now, but if anyone in the Utah area is interested I can forward on her information. This is the quilt she made for my sweet Ruby. It fits her personality and the room perfect!

I wanted a few pillows for each of their beds. The red and white stripe fabric I found at Ikea and it was perfect for what I was going for. The flower piece my Mom had and the other fabric was something I had on hand.

Yarn wrapped letters!! LOVE! Green car is from DI (Utah's Goodwill) and the Pearls are from my great-grandmother. Fake of course:) Mustache print out was found on Pinterest and printed at Costco. Frame is also a DI find.

The yellow table was a gift from my husbands Mom, and her husband. It was just a dark wood and I found a FAB mustard yellow paint on clearance at Home Depot for $2 and it was exactly what I was looking for. Vintage toys were all from DI. Both of their bumpers are from Ikea, the fitted sheets are Garanimals brand from Walmart, and I made both their crib skirts.

This fabric was also something I already had on hand. The colors and theme were perfect and you will notice other fabric from this same line around the room on the flag bunting.

"Rocking Nook" We will eventually get another chair for this area but until then this will be great. Orange Lazy Boy was from my other son's nursery and I really wanted to incorporate the orange because I love this chair. The white table was also his. The lamp was an $8 DI find and I just painted it pink with a small sample from Home Depot. I left the bottom and the shade just as I found it. The brass/Gold tones helped pull in s few of the frames I have up.

I only made the orange pillow here and it was originally from my other son's nursery. The other 2 were bought at Ikea. I could not for the life of me find the right fabric to make my own so I am SO happy I found these.

This is the quilt my Mom did for Milo. Isn't it incredible!! I love the vintage feel with this blanket. Also helped pull in all the themes I was trying to mesh together.

Milo's Crib!!! This was my other son's old crib. I loved the thought of different color cribs so we kept it the same Espresso Color which also matches the changing table/dresser.

Vinyl's were cut from my Cricut! They turned out amazing and just what I was going for. I love the Mustache/Lips theme!

This lamp was also from my other son's room. It was originally all orange and just taped it off to create stripes and painted it with the same pink as the other lamp. My husband was REALLY weary of me painting this pink. I am SO glad it turned out so good or I may have been in the dog house:)

This is one of my FAVORITE walls in the room. I got the idea from Pinterest as well. They used vintage toys and other oddities to create the one they had done. I put my own spin on it with the colors, mustaches, dolls, etc. LOVE!!!

This shelf was a $1 DI find that I had sitting in my hoard stash in my garage. Yes my husband thinks I am a hoarder, but what he doesn't realize is that everything gets used at some point. Or so I tell him........I took this shelf and flipped it upside down. In the original picture they had used a spice rack so it had slats, but when I saw it I remembered I had this shelf and knew I could make it work. I just painted it red with acrylic paint (all I had on hand) and then I sprayed it with a clear gloss to give it a little shine. The book was one I had on hand and the BlaBla Dolls were a gift from my sweet sister in law. The mustache picture if you can't tell is girls dancing with mustache shaped skirts. Perfect way to pull in that girly side we needed. The BlaBla finger puppets were also from my other son's nursery.

The yellow corbel was found at a yard sale last summer and was also in my "stash". I painted it the same yellow as the table and added this mustache print in a Dollar Store frame to sit on top. The pink frame was originally a mauve-ish color and was in a free pile on my neighbors front lawn. I love when people leave things for free outside. I really makes my day! I painted it with the sample of pink I had and then added this too die for printable from Pinterest. It had all elements of the room in one piece.

The wooden car was found at DI and I loved the raw wood so we (the hubby) just cut off the wheels on one side and we hung it with 3M velcro. Never used the velcro before, but it seems to work great. the orange frame I already had and again just added a cute printable from Pinterest. Are you on Pinterest? If your not, stop now, open a new page and get going on that. It is FABULOUS!!!!!

Here is the flag bunting I put together. This took me a little bit of time because I wanted all the fabric to be perfect. I wanted some girly, some boy, some neutral. Once I had everything picked out I cut a pattern from my cricut then pinned and cut out each one. I doubled them and then sewed around the edges. As soon as all of them were cut and sewed I just got some red bias tape (Thanks Aunt Laurie) and sewed them all together. I left about 7 inches in between and ended up with a super long banner. I am glad it was longer than anticipated because we were able to put it on 2 walls instead of just one.

Ahhhhhhh I still just die when I look at the pictures and every time I go in there. It's so peaceful and I sure hope my babies love it too!

This tool box was also a DI find. Don't worry I scoured DI for a few weeks gathering all my fun items. I painted it the same mustard yellow and added all the necessities needed for a changing table.

This was a Melissa and Doug train box when I found it at DI. I knew we could really rock this on the wall so we painted it the same as the crib and added little knick knacks that represented each baby. This is definitely one of my fave pieces. I am still working on a bow tie to go with the cuff links and then we are going to wrap a few crayons in the bakers twine.

I wanted to add to my vday collection this year and wanted to spice things up a little but so here are a few of my new items integrated in with my old ones. Here is a little tour around my house.

Saw this idea on Infarrantly Creative. It turned out SO good!

I don't have my steps for this project, but I just used a 12x12 piece of wood, painted it, cut out my letters on the cricut, and mod podged them to the board.

This wood tool box if you will was from my SIL and I couldn't believe it when she gave it to me. She said she found it in here basement and didn't want so I took that tool box and I made it my own. I added glass jars, treats, a ribbon, and a cute home made tag.

Here I just cut out the letters out of paper, added mod podge, and added on the glitter. I strung it up with some vintage lace and wah-la!

Same idea with those blocks as the love ones at the top.

Valentine's Bunco

I held Bunco at my place last night and wow was it fantastic!! We had great friends, great food, and great fun! We decided last month that everyone would bring a valentines box and valentines for everyone like we used to do in elementary school. Everyone went all out and it made it so awesome!

I cut these little boxes out with my cricut and they turned out SO cute!

I made these for my valentines gifts. I took soup cans and dazzled them up a bit. I unfortunately did not get a picture of all of them, but this one was mine.

This was my valentine "box". Cute huh!

New head wraps-lots of pics

Old end table, new life + A new shower curtain

Well i just wrote a whole post and then lost it so this one won't be as elaborate as the other one. Sorry!

I received this end table from a good friend and it has been sitting in my garage waiting to be painted and given a new home. I decided to use it in my upstairs bathroom that has been a work in progress since we moved into this house 3 years ago. I painted it with a blue that I already had laying around, but I knew it would be perfect. I had sewn a shower curtain awhile back but never put it up seeing as I was still not sure what look i was going for. Well it is finally coming together. Here is the both turned out.

Don't love the Knick knacks on top but they will have to do for now.

I sewed the shower curtain like a patchwork quilt. I was inspired by Anthropolgie's GORG lineup of always fantastic shower curtains. Sorry the pics were with my phone so not amazing.

What do you think? Any other ideas for this room?

Few new crafts

These are some new head wraps I have been making, I am currently selling them for $18 and can do custom orders. Just tell me the colors you want and I can whip something up. Let me know if you are interested!

So I saw some gold sparkly Christian Louboutins on the Sex and The city 2 movie and I was obsessed!! I just took a pair of old Steve Madden heels I had that weren't in very good shape and put mod podge all over them and them put gold glitter that I got at Hobby Lobby. They worked out WAY better than I could have imagined and I have been wearing them everywhere.

I bought a small apron for Dillon at a Boutique and I just took the pattern off of it and made an additional one for him for Christmas. So Cute!!!! I love it!

I helped my Sister in Law put this cork board together for my niece. It ended up SO cute and works perfect in her room.

Spongebob Birthday Party

For my Son's 2nd birthday we did a Spongebob birthday party. It was SOOOO fun and I literally turned our downstairs into Bikini Bottom. I bought the Spongebob circuit cartridge off ebay for.......$12!!!!! Can you believe it?! I know right! I was so excited. I wanted the party to be as authentic as possible so here is how it went.

I created this with the layers on my cricut. It took me a while to get it all figured out but once i did all the characters looked amazing.

Goodies bags included: Spongebob fruit snacks, fruit by the foot, and a bunch of other Spongebob candy i found at Walmart and Partyland.

Have to have the pineapples, bubbles, fishes, and sour candy. I got the fishing net from Partyland as well.

Cut out all the flowers, anchors, life preservers, and signs on the cricut as well.

We did "Jellyfishing" with a couple nets I got for $1 each at True value and blown up small balloons.

Bubbles. On one of the episodes they have a Bubble Stand and have a they have a funn skit to teach you how to blow bubbles.

I came from a family that had Pinatas at every party so we had to have one. This was so fun except that the rope broke, then the handle to the piñata broke so my husband and brother Jimmy-rigged It with an extension cord and it worked great.

My fabulous cousin from over at Topsy Turvy Cakes made this for us. If you are in Utah you have to get in touch with her name is Ashley Prisbey.

My camera was full so my mom has a lot of pics on her camera, but for dinner we had Krabby Patties, pineapple, and Kelp Juice. It was SUCH a fun party and thank you to all who attended!

Recent Projects......

Here are some of my biggest projects that I have done recently. I am sorry I have not kept up on my blogging my summer days have been filled with going to the pool. Haha! I know, I know, Hard knock life right.

Not sure what this little gem was originally, but I got it for free off KSL and when I saw it knew exactly what I was going to use it for. A Ribbon holder!! You can see my big rolls of ribbon need a bigger dowel, but all in all I LOVE IT!

I have been looking high and low for good deals on old windows. Well I FOUND some! I found them at a yard sale for $5 each, I only snagged 3 but wish I would have gotten more. This one I just did a light coat of Ivory Spray Paint, distressed, and added a little stain. This is one of my favorite projects I think EVER. It is the perfect fit for that wall.

Another favorite. I have been looking for MONTHS to find something, anything, that would look good on this funny wall in between my kitchen and family room. I searched yard sales, KSL, DI, etc. Well this particular Saturday I waltzed into the DI with a lot of hope and look what I found. I literally saw it and asked the nice man to come over and put a "Sold" sign on it. I didn't even have to look it over it was "Love at first sight". I paid $25 which is more than I think I have EVER spent at the DI, but it was TOTALLY worth it. The date underneath even says 1952. It's totally vintage. So with some elbow grease, black semi-gloss spray paint, and some new knobs, which were only $5 at a yard sale, and this is what you get, PERFECTION! Well almost I need to get one more knob to go on the middle drawer. That was a complete debacle, and I had 3 knobs, but now only have 2, so I am on the hunt.

These are from cabinet doors. If anyone out there knows of anyone that is redoing their kitchen and would like to give me their old cabinets, please let me know. I will gladly take them off their hands. A little Shout out to the Augustus family for my first set of doors!

Now of course we were scrambling to get everything done so my pic are not that great and I missed my WAY cute banner I made and a few other things, but here is what I have, Enjoy!

Another Baby Shower full of new things

I know, I know SOOO beautiful, right?! This is our guest of honor Heather. She is practically 9 months prego due any day and looking like she just walked out of a fashion show. Her shower was SO fun and thank you Cassie for helping me do it and thank you Heather for having a baby!

Mmmm Cass did such a good job on the fruit skewers!
This was some blue kool-aid in one of those Galvanized steal buckets.
So the look for the nursery that she is going for is based on those blabla dolls. She is having a boy so she has some of the more boyish dolls and I thought I would try and go off their colors. Well I was looking at their website which led me to their blog and wahla!, there was a few pictures of their store and how it was decorated. Hurray! Loved everything they had done so I just copied some of the things they had done. The main things were the pom-poms and the buckets. I just went to DI and found a few of the galvanized metal buckets (some of which were horrendous colors) then made the pom-poms and painted the buckets and that is it. So easy and WAY cute! I tried to incorporate as many of the colors as possible hence the licorice.
This little number was made from a candle stick from the dollar store and the top of a hat box that I had. I just glued them together and spray painted it blue and I now have another cake/serving dish. I LOVE this and am so happy how it turned out. Yes those are peeps on it (which I happen to thoroughly enjoy!).

I made all different sizes of the pom-poms to hang and then to put in the buckets. I just followed the tutorial on Martha Stewarts website to make them and they were SO easy.

Here is the finished product with everything on the counter. We did a cupcake bar where you actually ice the cupcake yourself and add all the condiments. We put out candy that were the colors we were going with and sprinkles as well.
This sign turned out SO much better than I thought it would as well. Hopefully you will be able to put it up somewhere Heath.

"F" is for the last name since the baby does not technically have a name yet.

My little sign. I am not sure if I have talked about this sign holder yet but it was SO easy to make. I took a bucket from the dollar store and put a cube of the green moss, added the spanish moss on top then for the metal part I took a wire hanger from our dry cleaning and cut a few pieces off, twisted the top around a glue stick and ta-da!. I love it and use it ALL the time.

Finally!!!! My Owl Mobile & "P" Tile!!

Ok so I made this Owl Mobile for my friend for her baby shower (the one in the post below), but me being the bonehead that I am totally spaced taking a picture once it was totally done. Forgive me though because it was like 1:30am and I was so tired. Then I didn't even take any pics at the actual shower of it, I know I know bonehead! So this was one of the funnest, hardest projects! The end result was exactly what I wanted it to be, but getting there was harder than I thought it would be. P.S. I saw this on Studio 5.
I started by raiding my dads big pile of branches from their tree he cut up last year. You see the above branches.
I cut off all the little pieces and cut them to the size I wanted them. I have no idea what that is I just eyeballed it.
With a LOT of help from my brother Jaden we wound the twine in and through all the branches so that is was really tight. Then took long pieces and tied them in 4 different areas to be able to hang it.
You can see how tight it is from this side angle.

My dear friend that I made this for took some pics for me once she hung it in her nursery. Isn't it perfect!!!! I just cut the owls out with my cricut then took a needle and fishing line and strung each one on there. There are also a few branches hanging as well. LOVE IT!!

This GEM was a random idea I just thought I would do. I just took a tile I had from Home Depot (same size as the Valentine's tile) and mod podged the back piece of paper, cut out the "P"s for her last name since they don't have a name for the baby yet. Mode Podged the letters on and that's it.

SO CUTE!!!!

$1 DI find-Doll High Chair

I found this beauty at the DI for $1, yes $1! Can you believe it?! I live in a house full of boys, but I immediately thought of my niece Mckell who is the only niece on the Haynie side. So I took that baby home and took it apart, spray painted it Ivory, distressed, added a little dark walnut stain, and a fabulous vinyl cupcake I cut with my cricut and here she is with a little help from the "Love Doctor"........Haha Sorry been watching way too much Alvin and the Chipmunks lately.

Elmo was the closest thing we had to a doll at our house, but he looks SUPER happy don't you think?

So this is the easiest craft ever and I saw it on my fave blog Shanty2Chic. This one is actually fr my sister in law Keri for her B-Day next week but I am giving it to her tomorrow so I figure its ok to post it today. If you do read this Keri should I still wrap it? haha!

I started out with a 12x12 piece of MDF board. You can get them at Home Depot, but as you can see here mine is super dirty and that is because I found a big piece in a garbage can by my house so I snatched it up and had my dad cut it.
I picked 2 colors of paint and did the darkest one first. While it was drying I cut out on contact paper my quote or wording on my cricut.
Then I painted the lighter color on top. This one I just made up my own color of grey that I liked.
Then I peeled my letters off so you can see the dark underneath.
Distressed it, wiped on a little dark walnut stain and wiped it off.

This one is actually for my mom. This is the first one I tried and sorry mom, yes yours was the guinea pig, but it worked out awesome!

St. Patrick's Day is upon us.....

So I have been wanting to do a St. Patrick's Day craft for awhile and I was doing this craft already and thought I could morph it into a St. Patrick's Day one and it worked! I love it! My husband even said that it is one of his fave things I have ever done. Who would have thought?!

Serving trays made with vases and plates

Everyone has been doing these so I thought I would jump on the band wagon. I have SOOOO many random vases lying around from all the flowers I have received over the years and I have just not wanted to throw them away but never had a need for them either. Well here is a perfect solution. I took some serving plates that I did not like anymore and 2 vases and turned them into this. I again did not take a picture of the during process so I will try and describe in detail but comment if you have any questions.

I first put both of my plates upside down to make it easier to glue the vases on. I then grabbed my trusty gorilla glue and went to town. I just added enough glue around the vase and the stuck the vase in the middle of the bottom of the plate. This you have to leave for 24 hours so make sure you have enough time for whatever you are using them for. Once the glue had dried I just took them to the garage used my ivory spray paint, distressed, and added my dark walnut stain and that was it. SO SIMPLE! You can add ribbon to them or just use them plain. I wouldn't recommend putting straight food on there because I didn't put a sealant or anything on it. I guess I could but I would need to do some research on what you can use. Does anyone know? Anyway I knew I was just putting cupcakes them so I knew I was fine. I love them and can't wait to use them again!

Owl-Themed Baby Shower

One of my really really good childhood friends is having a baby at the end of March and I wanted to make sure she got a good shower. She is having a boy and wanted to do an Owl theme for the nursery so I decided to make that the theme for the shower. I have been obsessed with owls for quite some time now so I was super excited to start on this adventure. There are a few items I did for the shower that I did not get final pictures of so I need to get those and then I will do another post.Started out with some cute invites.
Made Owl guys that look like they are standing up. Super easy just cut them out with my cricut and glued paper clips to the back for the feet.

I made an advice/tips jar for everyone to write any advice they had for Kalli.

This little number that is holding the sign was a sinch to create. I ust took a white bucket from the dollar store stuck in a cube of the Styrofoam moss and then added some fake spanish moss on top to cover it. I then took a wire hanger from our dry cleaning and straightened it out, cut it to the length I wanted, then would the end tight so I could stick the paper in it. Super easy and these can usually be quite pricey if you buy them somewhere. Cost me maybe $4? Not bad.....
These cupcake holders have a post of their own coming as well.

For the cupcake toppers I just cut the owls with my cricut and then glued toothpicks to the back of them. I do have to put in here that I did make and frost the cupcakes myself. I was pretty proud.
This still looks a little bare because I took it the night before. It does not have any of the food, but our menu consisted of waffles with ice cream and strawberry sauce, Homemade cinnamon rolls(courtesy of my mom), orange julius, and good ol milk. Everyone was able to take home lots of cupcakes and little blue, green, and white candies.

Another VDay decoration

I really wasn't joking when I said that I did not even own ONE Valentine's decoration before I decided to decorate for Valentine's Day. I have really had to get creative with what I already had here at the house to make some classic pieces to use year after year.

Here is the latest decoration.......
I need to get a stand to put it on, but just did this yesterday with the banner so I have not had time yet.
I took a plain white 6x6 tile from Home Depot. I think they are like 20 cents. I had bought them for another project and had a couple leftovers.

I chose some fun vday paper I bought a while back at Roberts, then cut it to size.

I then Mod Podged the paper to the tile. I put on about 4 coats. It only takes like 5 minutes for one coat to dry so I was doing this the same time I was doing the banner.
This is what it looks like afterward. I don't have a picture of it after I sanded it down, but I just took some sand paper once it was totally dry and just rubbed off the edges a little bit. I wanted it to have a worn look. Don't get too crazy with the sandpaper, just a little worn.
Then I added my vinyl I cut and that was it. Again super easy and CHEAP.

Valentine's Banner

Below is a Valentine's Banner I whipped up yesterday. I having been planning on doing this for a while so I already had all the supplies, but just needed to find a little time. I started out by figuring out what I wanted to put on the banner. I went with "Be Mine". Seems to be my fave saying this Valentine's. I hopped on my Gypsy and created the heart, squares, and letters then cut them out on my Cricut. If you don't have one just create your own heart, square, and letter templates. Not hard to do just would take a lot longer.

Next step was punching holes in the top of the hearts so I could string them. I thought it was easier to do this before I glued everything on just so I didn't mess anything up.
Now glue your pieces on top of each other.
I grabbed my trusty jute twine. I use this stuff EVERYWHERE. Its super cheap and comes with a lot on the roll.
Once everything was glued on I started by putting the twine through the back left side of each heart over the middle and back down the top right side to string them together. You can do this however you would like, but I wanted the twine to show on the front. More vintage looking to me.
At this point I was done with the banner and headed down stairs to get measurements for my mantle. I grabbed some VDay ribbon I had in my supplies as well to add a little more vavoom to the banner.

I measured it out, hung the banner, and then proceeded to put a few ribbon pieces on each end and in between the words to distinguish it a little more.
Here she is! I am sorry the pics aren't great. I took them with my iphone and some worked a little better than others. I love it and it was SO fast and of course CHEAP!

"S" Plaque

Hmmm......New way of uploading pictures on blogspot is.......interesting. Hopefully it looks ok.

This was one of my fave projects that I have done. I also got the idea from Shanty2Chic and made plaques for my mom and mother in law for Christmas. I don't have any pics of those unfortunately, but they looked similar to this just taller bottoms and there were 3 each and it spelled out JOY. This one I started out with a piece of 2x6 I believe and it was a left over piece from my other cuts so it was about 9-10 inches tall. The bottom consists of a small candlestick from DI and then an unfinished wood round...thing? Round plaque? I glued those to each other and then actually glued the piece of wood to the candlestick. I use Gorilla Glue or Gorilla Glue Epoxy for everything I do. It seems to work the best but it does expand so you have to be careful.
There is a fabulous place in Lehi that is called MetalMart. They sell wrought iron finnials for SO CHEAP. The one on this project was like 49 cents!! I have used wooden ones from Hobby Lobby that I love as well, but these are way cheaper and have different styles. They are a lot heavier though so it depends on what you are using it for. Anyway I glued the finnial on top, waited until it was totally dry. I like to wait overnight just to ENSURE that I don't have any accidents. I then sprayed the whole thing black. Now for the middle I took a piece of Burlap and cut it to the measurements I wanted it on the wood. I then printed out an "S" and used it as a stencil and used black acrylic paint to stencil it on. When it was dry I sanded down the corners and edges to distress it and then used spray adhesive to place my burlap where I wanted it. From there I used decorative furniture nails and hammered them into each corner. How easy, right? I know! Well it took me a lot longer than it sounds in this post, but the result was worth it.

Pottery Barn copy cat

For those of you that recently got the above PB magazine you will know what I am talking about here. OBSESSED!!!!!!!! I normally am not into the whole farmhouse style but after seeing this I want to change my entire house. Well since I can't do that I found the area I wanted to change the most and went with it. I took the fireplace mantle above and recreated that in my family room. Here it is........

This was SOOO fun! I started out by going through everything that I already had at my house that I could repurpose. The black candleticks were a brown and I sprayed them black. The planter box I had somewhere else and it was green on the bottom so I painted it Ivory, distressed it, and hit up with some Dark Walnut stain. The 2 candle holder was from a while ago and I found it at Savers, but have been waiting for the right project. I already had the bowl with the wood and eggs in it from a savers find a while ago and that used to be in our office, but was replaced for its new home. Then I had a few of the small candles and then cake holder top goes to one of my cake holders. I also had the twigs that are inside it as well.
I then hit up DI and my fave antique thrift store "Nook & Cranny", as well as the Dollar Store. Here I found more candlesticks, candles, and the other goods.
The silver candlestick in this are actually a small glass one from the dollar store glued onto a wood one from the DI and then I sprayed them with a chrome spray paint.
The large glass ones are from hobby lobby at 65% off! The silver one in this one is 3 candleticks all glued together with Gorilla Glue and then sprayed Chrome.
The ivory one in the back is a candlestick with a round wooden plaque from HL that was unfinished. I glued them together, painted it ivory, distressed, and added Dark Walnut stain. There is also a glass hurricane in the back that was plain and I took a glass margarita cup from the dollar store sprayed it chrome and glued it to the glass hurricane.

It turned out better than I could have hoped! I love it!

Little hanging things with wire

Not sure what they are called in real life, but in my mind they are "little hanging things with wire". I love at boutiques, craft stores, and other decor places they have the umm, "little hanging things with wire". Some are wood and some are metal, but they are small, petite, and look so cute EVERYWHERE. If someone out there has a better name for them please let me know.

Anyway awhile back I bought at a going out of business sale these wooden "tags". They come with a ribbon through the whole and unfinished. I took the ribbon out sprayed it red, distressed it, and then again added some vinyl lettering. I then popped some wire through the hole and hung it with ribbon. Again so simple and cheap!

I had this piece of wood left over from some Christmas gifts I had put together and was just itching to use it. I wanted this piece to be simple, but cute so I just spray painted it red, distressed it, and then cut out some vinyl and slapped it on. I love decor that is timeless and I think this piece will never go out of style. Well I hope not at least......

Faux Tree if you will

This one is kind of hard to see because there is not much too it. It really is SO cute in person. So I had seen something similar to this in a magazine, I think PB. I loved it and wanted to do it but I wanted it to be dual purpose. I started with a glass vase and some decor river rocks(Rocks from my mom). I then went to my parents house who had just chopped up part of their HUGE tree and found my branches. I cut the branches to the heights I wanted and took off a few of the funny limbs and then I added the rocks to keep them in place. This would have completed the original project, but for VDay I wanted to hang "ornaments" if you will for the holiday. I created each of these ornaments with different materials. You will see the felt rose balls in the post below. There are 4 wood hearts that were unfinished from my mom. I took those and painted 2 red and 2 ivory. I distressed them and then cut out vinyl x's and o's on my cricut to place one on each of them. There were already holes in them so I just added some small wire(also from my mom) and they were hung. I then cut our multiple hearts and sayings out of paper with my cricut and then put wire on those and hung them. Super cheap project and WAY cute! Hopefully I can think of a few things to place on there for St. Patrick's Day.

Felt Wreath and Balls

This I saw on an episode of KSL's Studio5. This was SUPER easy, but very time consuming. You take felt material of whatever color you like. I used Red and Ivory as those are my fave colors for VDay. Then you cut out LOTS and LOTS of circles. I used the top of a big plastic cup for my template for the wreath and the bigger ball and then the bottom of the plastic cup for the smaller ball. You need a Styrofoam ball of whatever size you want and then a Styrofoam wreath as well. You will also need a box of pins. Just use the ones that have a flat head and no color. You take the circle fold it in half and then in half again so it looks like a triangle. Take a pin and place it through the point of the triangle and push it into the Styrofoam. There is not any real rhyme or reason to how you place them as long as the entire project is covered. This makes it look like rose petals all over. So Cool, Right! On the balls I did I took a piece of ribbon, folded it in half and the pinned it to the ball before doing the felt pieces. This allowed me to hang it.

You do the exact same thing for the wreath, but you don't have to do the back since no one will see it. To hang this wreath I just nailed a hook above my mirror and then tied the ribbon around the wreath and that's it.

Valentine's Decor

So in the past I have not really been into decorating for every holiday. I did Thanksgiving and Christmas really big and then took the rest of the year off. Since my feelings have since changed I decided since I had ZERO Valentine's decorations and I didn't want to have to go spend a ton of money on a bunch a new ones I thought I would "get crafty" and make some.

This here was a frame I got from my mom (one of my fave things to do is raid her garage and storage stuff). I painted with the Ivory, distressed it, but didn't use the stain this time. Then I just hot glued this cute paper to the back where the picture would normally go. There was no glass, must have gotten lost somewhere so I thought I would add this cute "S" I have had lying around for while. I found it at Hobby Lobby for super cheap and had it painted red and distressed for some time now but was looking for "the right place" for it. I tied the twine on the "S" and then hot glued the twine to the back of the frame through the paper, then glued the paper over the twine. Hopefully that made sense. If anyone needs more info on it let me know.

Photo Frame Re-Do

So I have totally been into the "lighter" colors lately. ie: Everything Pottery Barn. Also vintagey looking. I found this fabulous frame at DI for like $2. It was a horrible gold color and had some random photo in it. I took the photo out spray painted it Ivory, distressed it, and put my fave Dark Walnut Stain over it. I love how the stain picks up those edges so nice. This is also going in my room, but still need to find a cute easel to place it on.

Home Made Apothecary Jars

The above project I found on my FAVE blog, Shanty2Chic. Their address is on the side. They have the cutest stuff and tell you how to do it all yourself. This project took 3 candlesticks which I found at Savers and DI. 3 big Jars, 2 were from my mom and the other from Ikea. 3 wooden finnials from Hobby Lobby and the few items that I placed inside.

I painted the candelsticks, lids, and finnials with an Ivory spray paint. I distressed them with sand paper to my liking and then added a quick coat of Dark Walnut stain. You just paint it on and wipe it off. This gives you the dark edges and a more distressed look. I then glued the jars on the candlesticks, then the finnials on the lids and Wa-La! You have your very own homemade apothecary jars. These currently reside in my bedroom on the dresser, but I am still working out exactly how I want to display them.

Well I have been crafting like crazy the last year or so and have had a few people ask me to create a craft blog. Now I have been posting stuff here and there on my family blog but hopefully doing this will get me to take "before" pictures and not just after. I love to take things I find in Magazines and recreate them for my own home. I love thrift stores and anything I can buy SUPER cheap. Follow me on my quest of making my house a home. My motto is "a home is always a work in progress".
